Four Sensational Women Receive Dream Prizes from Chicken of the Sea
SAN DIEGO – Sept. 17, 2012 - Four sensational women in their 60s are grand-prize winners and will receive a dream birthday celebration thanks to Chicken of the Sea’s 60s & Sensational Contest, which recognizes people in their 60s who fuel their mind, body and spirit with healthy eating, physical activity and personal fulfillment.
The contest is a celebration of the Chicken of the Sea Mermaid who is celebrating her 60th birthday. Thousands of votes were cast on Facebook through two voting phases for nominations that included photos and short essays. Four grand-prize winners chose between three sensational birthday packages: a 60s & Sensational $1,000 shopping spree; dinner with three friends, including a limo for transportation; or a spa package for two, complete with hotel accommodations and dinner.
The first grand-prize winner, Terry Ausband, was nominated by her daughter Julee. Terry, who lives in North Carolina, is a sensational 64-year-old who enjoys playing and reading with her grandchildren, being a chef at a local restaurant and getting together with friends at least once a week. When she’s not cooking up delicious meals for her customers or spending time with her grandkids, Terry enjoys tending to her garden.
Kimberly from Massachusetts nominated second grand-prize winner, Denise Sullivan, a close family friend. One of Denise’s passions includes helping others overcome drug and alcohol addiction. She was so committed to making a difference in other people’s lives that she decided, at the age of 60, to go to college for the first time to become an alcohol and drug counselor – her most recent work was with female inmates struggling with drug addiction. Denise teaches her clients to lead a healthy lifestyle through proper eating habits, the power of meditation and self-awareness.
The third grand-prize winner is Wisconsin resident, Mary Serowski. Her daughter, Jenny, is so proud of her mother’s newly found dedication to a healthier lifestyle, she jumped at the opportunity to nominate her. Mary works hard to live a healthy lifestyle by improving her diet and increasing the amount of exercise she gets. Mary also began taking weekly bike rides to boost her energy and keep up with her three grandchildren who often accompany her, making these rides a fun activity for her whole family.
The final grand-prize winner is Joan Deman from Michigan. Joan’s best friend’s daughter, Jill, sees her as a second mother and second grandmother to her own daughter. Jill describes Joan as “the perfect role model for any woman who is trying to balance a career, family, religion and everyday life.” Joan takes care of her 91-year-old mother, maintains a demanding job, attends and participates in her church weekly, and never forgets the birthdays or special occasions of her loved ones.
