Keeping Up with Culinary Trends

As a Mermaid Club member, you’ve probably noticed the vast recipes using multiple seafood offerings in Chicken of the Sea’s® collection, and in addition to tasting great, the recipes look awesome too. At Chicken of the Sea, we know that a great meal can be enhanced with a wonderful presentation. That’s why we stay up-to-date on the latest culinary trends, including new flavors and presentation styles.

A few times a year, we will share with you how to make your ordinary dishes more “gourmet” with some helpful hints. This month, we’ll teach you some key elements of presenting – or “plating” in culinary terms –your dishes:

Garnish

Use edible elements to enhance your dishes visually and add extra flavor.

Common garnishes include:

  • herbs – such as parsley, basil and cilantro
  • cheese in various forms – grated, shaved and shredded
  • fruit in various forms – slices, wedges and wheels

Color

Use contrasting or complementing colors for your serving ware to bring more attention to a recipe. Some examples of color usage are serving a soup that is full of color in a white bowl or a using a dark green plate with a sandwich that has some light green lettuce in it.

Shapes

Use different serving shapes to add more flair to your dish. Common trends include martini glasses, square plates and mugs.
