International Company Donates 100,000 Cans of Tuna to Help Victims
SAN DIEGO – Sept. 14, 2005 – Chicken of the Sea International is donating a truckload – nearly 100,000 cans – of tuna to aid the thousands of victims of Hurricane Katrina.
The donation was made through America's Second Harvest, which is providing the transportation of the seafood from Bolingbrook, Ill., to the location most in need of aid in the Gulf Coast.
"It is our corporate responsibility to help these people in need," said John Signorino, president and CEO of Chicken of the Sea. "By providing shelf–stable tuna, the victims can feed themselves and their families with something that is nutritious."
The mission of America's Second Harvest is to create a hunger–free America. It distributes food and grocery products through a nationwide network of certified affiliates, increases public awareness of domestic hunger and advocates for policies that benefit America's hungry.
