Overview of Role

The Maintenance Manager leads a team of maintenance personnel optimizing plant resources for production equipment. This position reports to the Plant General Manager. The position requires working independently and with other plant personnel.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supervise and lead all maintenance processes and operations
  • Monitor department KPIs and develop/execute actions defines short term and long-term action plans to support growth, cost management, and process improvements with good follow up and completion of action plan(s).
  • Ensures that all manufacturing equipment has a maintenance plan and this plan is being executed in a timely and cost-efficient manner in order to properly maintain production schedule and satisfy regulatory compliance. PMs are optimized and evaluated for effectiveness.
  • Manages spare parts and inventory processes making sure that all parts are in the CMMS, labeled and organized in the spare parts room, mins and maxes properly defined, parts are checked out properly and inventory accuracy and cycle counting are maintained.
  • Manages work order submission process ensuring that all needed work is in the CMMS, there is cross-functional participation, work orders are prioritized and closed in a timely manner and completed work is effectively communicated.
  • Completes Breakdown Analysis for large downtime events and ensures effective preventive measures are put into place.
  • Listen and coach team members and responsible for performance evaluations and disciplinary discussions.
  • Assist each team member by offering opportunities for growth i.e. cross training, technical training, etc.
  • Enforce company safety policy – communicating with all maintenance employees to eliminate possible injuries, promoting a safe work environment for the organization.
  • Identify and work with purchasing to order parts. Effectively and consistently communicate the status of parts orders to managers, supervisors and machine operators
  • Maintain, troubleshoot and repair production and facility equipment to ensure equipment reliability, optimum performance and safety and respond with urgency to unplanned mechanical issues effecting performance or safety
  • Apply experience and skills when troubleshooting PLCs, automation and controls
  • Safely and correctly use shop tools such as, but not limited to, hand tools, drill, grinder and welder
  • Assist in the construction and installation of new equipment
  • Train operators on job aids, work instructions and total productive maintenance procedures
  • Build strong working relationships with machine operators and other production employees
  • Manage team member schedules and time.
  • Utilize lean/continuous improvement methodologies to eliminate losses and defects.
  • Optimize resources, analyze data and lead small problem-solving teams.
  • Ensure team members participate in required training (safety, quality, etc.) and follow safety and quality requirements.
  • Uphold plant safety, health and environmental programs
  • Upholds and inspires adoption of company mission and values.
  • Other duties may be assigned 

Skills & Qualifications

  • 5 years of experience in Maintenance in a production environment with labeling, tray pack and other fast lines
  • Retort, boiler, canning knowledge a plus
  • Strong PLC, instrumentation and electronic background
  • 5-10 years of Management experience
  • Ability to stand, reach, walk, stoop, push, pull and lift and carry up to 50lbs
  • Strong working knowledge of pumps, valves, gears, bearings, lubricants, as well as electromechanical devices and systems, mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic systems
  • Experience with Allen Bradley controls
  • Must be able to read and interpret equipment manuals and work orders
  • Willingness to follow OSHA safety standards to ensure a safe working environment for self and coworkersAttention to Detail

Education

  • Associates Degree (or higher) in Electrical Engineering
  • Associates Degree (or higher) in Mechanical Engineering

Physical Demands

While performing this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, communicate, usually through talking, hearing, writing and typing. Employee should be able to operate standard office equipment, i.e., telephones, computers, facsimile and copier. The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk, and move or lift to 35 lbs. The employee regularly works in a well-lighted, heated and/or air-conditioned indoor office setting with a moderate degree of noise. The employee is required to comply with all company policies, rules and directives, including safe work practices.
