Overview of Role

KEY RESULTS

    Responsible for the sanitation, clean-up, and pest control of plant and plant grounds. Develops and implements master sanitation, pest control and clean-up plans for plant, meeting Regulatory and COS guidelines and requirements. 

    GENERAL TASKS

    Direct a crew of up to 15 hourly employees daily (Sanitation, Clean-up, and Pest Control laborers), ensuring that all personnel have adequate training, supplies and equipment to perform the assigned duties safely and efficiently, following proper GMP and safety practices in compliance with Regulatory and Company policies and requirements

      1. Assist Plant QC Manager to write and revise detailed sanitation and clean up procedures and SOPs for all plant equipment and areas. Assist Plant QC Manager to develop annual budgets for Sanitation, Pest Control, and Clean-up.
      2. Provide technical and beginner sanitation training. E.g. GMPs, chemical use and safety, confined space entry, pesticide handling, sanitation policies, post-cleaning verification, pre-operations inspections, technical execution of sanitation.
      3. Track and report sanitation key metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs). E.g. pest management trending, non-PEM swab data, budget & plant annual sanitation plan attainment data, cleaning compliance to schedule, post cleaning & pre-operations inspection acceptance rates.
      4. Participate in plant sanitation and food safety plan compliance audits and sanitation policy gap assessment and implement and document corrective actions to overcome audit findings and program gaps.
      5. Provide sanitation and clean-up support for required preventive maintenance or requested change and repair work orders as needed. Includes planning, scheduling, and closing work orders and maintenance job requests.
      6. Assist with the sanitary design review of plant maintenance and engineering projects
      7. Interface with approved vendors and third party outside service providers. Work with vendors to select the most appropriate chemicals, equipment, and supplies for plant sanitation

      SPECIFIC TASKS

      Pest Control – Ensure the plant is maintained in a pest free manner using EPA and State approved pesticides, bait stations and traps. Develop and implement a Master Pest Control Action Plan for the facility.

      Maintain the Pest Control Log Book, ensuring documentation of pesticide usage is done, pest control measures taken, and corrective actions and responses to observations or reported deviations. Ensure all pesticides and pest control devices have been officially approved for use in the facility, and are stored, used and disposed according to applicable Federal, State, Industry and Company regulations, guidance and procedures.

      • Inspect “HOT SPOTS” at the processing and packing areas for pests as needed. 
      • Coordinate and ensure the inspection and servicing of the rodent traps, bait stations, and insect lights routinely (as required by the Pest Control Action Plan) throughout the plant. 
      • Interface with vendors and third-party pest control service providers for cost reduction, ordering departmental supplies, materials and equipment, and arranging special services in plant (pesticide applications, contracted pest control services, etc). 
      • Ensure that all pest control personnel, and outside service provider personnel, have adequate training, supplies and equipment to perform pest control duties safely and efficiently, following proper GMP and safety practices in compliance with Regulatory Industry and Company policies and requirements.

      Plant Sanitation – Ensure plant and plant grounds are maintained clean and free of trash and debris in compliance with Federal and Local regulations, and with Company policies and requirements. Develop and implement a Master Sanitation Plan for the facility. Maintain the Sanitation Log Book, documenting cleaner and sanitizer chemicals usage, sanitation activities, trash disposal, and corrective actions and responses to observations or reported deviations. Ensure all cleaning and sanitizing chemicals have been officially approved for use in the facility, and are stored, used and disposed according to applicable Federal, State and Company regulations and procedures.

      • Coordinate trash and rubbish pick up and disposal inside and outside of plant compound and premises.
      • Coordinate trash disposal and janitorial services for all areas of the plant, including production and warehouse areas, offices, break areas, and bathrooms.
      • Determine the frequency of rounds for each area. 
      • Ensure trash receptacles are rinsed each time they are emptied, and cleaned with high pressure hose, or detergent as needed. 
      • Coordinate janitorial, grounds keeping, and trash hauling services with outside third party service providers. 
      • Ensure that all sanitation personnel, and outside service provider personnel (as applicable) have adequate training, supplies and equipment to perform sanitation duties safely and efficiently, following proper GMP and safety practices in compliance with Regulatory and Company policies and requirements.
      • Maintain the sanitation storage area(s) and equipment clearly identified, clean, organized and in proper working order. Make sure bulk sanitation chemical containers are closed after use, and that no other chemicals are stored in the sanitation storage area.
      • Ensures all bulk containers or secondary containers (sprayers, buckets, etc) are clearly marked identifying cleaning chemical name, date, hazard information, and NSF and/or EPA registration number (is applicable).
      • Interface with vendors and outside service providers for cost savings, ordering departmental supplies, materials and equipment, and arranging special services (janitorial, trash disposal or grounds keeping services, contracted painting, etc). 

      Plant Clean-up – Ensure Packing areas and equipment are maintained clean and in sanitary conditions in compliance with Federal and Local regulations, and with Company policies and requirements for the processing and manufacturing of wholesome and safe foodstuffs. Develop, update and maintain a Master Clean-up Plan for the Packing Room, including the Thawing Area, Chill Room and Broth Room areas. Maintain the Clean-up Log Book, documenting cleaner and sanitizer chemicals orders, receipt, and usage, clean-up activities, audit and inspection results, and corrective actions and responses to observations or reported deviations. Ensure all cleaning and sanitizing chemicals have been officially approved for use in the facility, and are stored, used and disposed of in compliance with Regulatory and Company policies and procedures.

      • Coordinate and lead the routine clean-up of the Packing Room, Thaw Room, Chill Room and Broth Room areas and equipment.
      • Determine the frequency, and the requirements in terms of cleaning supplies, equipment, and labor for each area and each piece of equipment.
      • Ensure that all food processing equipment and food contact surfaces are properly clean and sanitized in compliance with food manufacturing GMPs, Regulatory and Company policies and requirements, and in a timely manner so as not to interfere with Production Department and Maintenance Department schedules.
      • Ensure that all clean-up personnel have adequate training, supplies and equipment to perform clean-up duties safely and efficiently, following proper GMP and safety practices in compliance with Regulatory and Company policies and requirements.
      • Maintain the clean-up chemical storage area(s) and all the clean-up equipment and supplies clearly identified, clean, and organized, and in proper working order. Make sure bulk clean-up chemical containers are closed immediately after use, stored properly and safely, and that no other chemicals are stored in the clean-up chemical storage area.
      • Ensures all bulk containers or secondary containers (sprayers, buckets, etc) are clearly marked identifying cleaning chemical name, date, hazard information, and NSF and/or EPA registration number as applicable.
      • Interface with approved vendors and outside service providers for cost savings, ordering departmental supplies, materials and equipment, and arranging special services. 
      • Ensure that all clean-up personnel, and outside service provider personnel (as applicable) follow proper GMP and safety practices in compliance with Regulatory and Company policies and requirements. 

      MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS

      • College Degree or 10-year Food Manufacturing Sanitation experience at a Manager level
      • Sanitation Workshop Certification, HACCP Certified
      • Able to read, write and speak English
      • Able to lift 60lbs
      • Able to work any shift including overtime and/or weekends
      • Hazardous Chemical Handling experience
