Quality Assurance Director
El Segundo, California
Based at Thai Union North America Headquarters he/she reports hierarchically to the Vice President of Quality Assurance of Thai Union North America (Chicken of the Sea). His/her main mandate will be to contribute to the profitable growth of Thai Union North America (Chicken of the Sea), through the development and implementation of strong end-to-end Food Safety and Quality systems. The position is responsible for establishing a corporate quality assurance system and team that promotes customer satisfaction while maintaining all regulatory requirements to ensure safe, quality food. He/she will be an effective member of the Quality Assurance team and will actively contribute in meeting safety and quality requirements.
Responsibilities:
- Ensures products and processes conform to established quality and regulatory standards including US FDA and British Retail Consortium (BRC) requirements
- Leads the development of Operating Standards and co-packer manufacturing and finished product specifications to meet COSI and regulatory requirements.
- Provides prompt and appropriate responses to consumer complaints and queries.
- Provides appropriate and timely disposition of substandard product.
- Maintains compliance with FDA and other applicable food regulations.
- Initiates and implements quality improvement activities to raise the performance of the company’s product lines
- Educates and trains employees as to their impact in the quality management system
- Develops, implements, manages and integrates a quality management system for manufacturing plants
- Serves as the primary quality control resource for problem identification, resolution, loss reporting and continuous improvement
- Designs, implements and documents procedures for process control, process improvement, testing and inspection
- Performs root cause analysis and other problem-solving activities to identify effective corrective actions and process improvements
- Establishes collection and analysis of statistical data to predict trends that will affect improvement of product quality
- Analyzes customer’s product specifications to establish efficient and effective requirements for ease of manufacture
- Develops process certification standards and assists in process certification, including participation in external audits
- Interacts with customers to identify opportunities to improve quality and establish feedback with manufacturing and development personnel
- Establishes supplier quality and food safety requirements
- Leads internal audit and co-packer audit program of manufacturing facilities
- Interfaces with supplier and customer representatives concerning problems with quality control and assure that effective corrective action is implemented
- Ensures company label initiatives are appropriately implemented including laboratory analysis, product evaluations, database maintenance and label review
- Communicates new regulatory requirements and industry actions to company management and makes recommendations for policy, procedure or specification improvements
- Develops strategic plans for continuous quality improvements and maintenance of current quality standards

- Coach/Mentor and Develop Team Members Collaborate cross-functionally individually and as a team to deliver QA goals
Requirements:
- Degree in scientific discipline, advanced degree preferred.
- 10+ years of experience in shelf stable and ready-to-eat seafood manufacturing industries in a quality or food safety focused role
- Senior managerial experience in a hands-on environment
- Excellent communication skills, team member can work collaboratively with colleagues across all functions
- Excellent analytical, presentation and writing skills
- Senior managerial experience in a hands-on environment
- Demonstrated experience in the strategic design, implementation and management of domestic internal audit strategies Demonstrated knowledge of complex US federal, state and local and international laws and regulations.
