Austin, Texas-Area Woman Is Big Winner of National Salmon Day Sweepstakes
Cathy Olive of Del Valle, Texas, will redeem seven-day Alaskan cruise on her birthday to see the popular pink fish up close; Chicken of the Sea initiative looks to remind Americans of the health and wellness advantages of wild and packaged salmon
DEL VALLE, Texas (October 21, 2016) – An Austin-area woman will spend her 67th birthday in 2017 spotting Alaskan salmon aboard an Alaskan cruise as the big winner of a national sweepstakes honoring the popular pink fish.
Cathy Olive of Del Valle, Texas, was the Grand Prize winner of the “Salmon Loves Rice Sweepstakes,” a national nutritional initiative created by Chicken of the Sea to remind Americans about the health and wellness advantages of America’s second-most-popular fish. The sweepstakes is part of a larger Chicken of the Sea program that includes the christening of Oct. 8 as National Salmon Day and a partnership with the maker of Minute® Rice to show the myriad pairing possibilities of salmon and rice.
Olive qualified for the sweepstakes by successfully answering a series of salmon trivia questions using the social media hashtag #NationalSalmonDay. As the Grand Prize winner from more than 44,000 entries received, she redeems a prize package featuring a seven-day Alaskan cruise and Chicken of the Sea® Flavored Salmon Pouches and Minute® Ready to Serve Rice products valued at $5,440.
“We congratulate Cathy not only on receiving the big prize but also helping us get the word out about the essential nutritional benefits that packaged and wild salmon bring to the table,” said Maureen McDonnell, Chicken of the Sea’s director of brand marketing and category management. She said the sweepstakes was prompted in part by the January 2016 release of Dietary Guidelines for Americans 2015-2020, which encourages Americans to choose seafood in place of other protein foods for two meals (or 8 ounces) per week.
In addition to its namesake tuna, San Diego-based Chicken of the Sea provides clams, crab, oysters, shrimp, mackerel, kipper snacks and sardines, and is an industry pioneer in packaged salmon. The company became the first to introduce skinless and boneless salmon in 1984, and notched another first in 2014 when it introduced the industry’s first line of flavored salmon pouches as a high-protein alternative to traditional salads and sandwiches.
