Chicken of the Sea® Announces "Sea the Possibilities" Grand Prize Winner
For 75-year-old Barb Estabrook of Appleton, Wis., a fourth-degree black belt in mixed martial arts just wasn’t enough
SAN DIEGO, Calif. (May 11, 2016) – Chicken of the Sea has singled-out a 75-year-old Appleton, Wis., grandmother of five for taking up Tae Kwon Do after receiving a black belt in mixed martial arts.
Barb Estabrook was honored for making a commitment to live a more adventurous, happier and healthier life as part of the seafood provider’s Sea the Possibilities Challenge lifestyle initiative. As the Grand Prize winner, Barb was chosen from among thousands of promotion participants for setting and achieving a health or fitness goal beyond her comfort zone.
What began as an opportunity for Barb to volunteer at a local martial arts studio led to her enrolling in a Tae Kwon Do class to supplement her fourth-degree black belt in mixed martial arts. Since becoming a Tae Kwon Do student in March, Barb has advanced to a yellow belt and continues her weekly classes.
“I never thought I would become a student again at the age of 75,” Estabrook said. “Chicken of the Sea’s challenge encouraged me to live large and even inspired my grandchildren to take up Tae Kwon Do. I hope my story can motivate others to live out their bucket-list goals, no matter their age.”
Estabrook was one of thousands who took the Sea the Possibilities Challenge. The three-month national promotion encouraged Americans to sample bold new foods, everyday experiences and once-in-a-lifetime adventures to create a richer, more satisfying life – both in the kitchen and beyond.
Participants accepted a challenge at one of three levels and shared their personal journey through stories, photos and videos. Nine monthly winners received $1,000 prizes and were eligible for the Grand Prize award of $5,000 to be applied toward future Sea the Possibilities adventures.
